By The Conspirator is “the true story you thought you knew” about the assassination of our beloved (and Illinois’s second favorite) President Abraham Lincoln. Specifically, it focuses on the titular female co-conspirator to the Lincoln assassination and her subsequent hanging, which was the US government’s first hanging of a woman. The first official 2011 trailer can be seen after the jump.
The film, directed by Robert Redford (The Legend of Bagger Vance), boasts a very impressive cast list (as well as insane amounts of facial hair), which includes Robin Wright (Forrest Gump) as the female suspect, Mary Surratt and James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) as Surratt’s defendant, Fredrick Aiken, as well as other big names, including Justin Long (Alvin and the Chipmunks), Evan Rachel Wood (Across the Universe), Johnny “Young Neil” Simmons (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Kevin Kline (Wild Wild West), Tom Wilkinson (Rush Hour), and the lovely Alexis Biedel (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants).
The Conspirator will be released on April 15, 2011, coinciding with the date of President Lincoln’s assassination. Ooh! Meta!
