If I could describe the trailer for Woody Allen’s new movie in one word, I’d be a terrible, facile writer.* At a glance, there’s a lot of great stuff in here that usually plays well with The Wood’s strengths. There’s young, confusing romance, weird prostitute romance, older romance, and a bit of Ellen Page lesbianism. All of it sits at the center of Allen’s current infatuation with the city of Rome. While Woody Allen’s New York City-centric work tends to be my favorite of his, I do love how he just becomes all about a particular city, centers a movie or two around it, and then moves on.
To Rome with Love opens first, and fittingly, in Italy April 20th, followed by a limited US release June 22nd.
*- The word was going to be “charming,” in case you were interested.
