I think I’m the only Flixist editor who enjoyed Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life. I still don’t know how I’d rank it against Badlands, but I found it remarkably moving. Yet while enjoying the movie, I also understood (without condescension) why four or five people walked out of the sparsely populated theater.
And so here’s a trailer for Malick’s newest film, To the Wonder, starring Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Olga Kurylenko, and Javier Bardem. The movie’s about a crazy little thing called love. Here’s a synopsis:
A romantic drama centered on Neil, a man who is torn between two loves: Marina, the European woman who came to United States to be with him, and Jane, the old flame he reconnects with from his hometown.
To the Wonder premiered at the Venice Film Festival last August. On the film’s Wikipedia entry, it notes that To the Wonder caused unintentional laughs and was met with cheers and boos. Mixed to say the least. If it’s that divisive, I definitely need to check it out. I may have to bring a flask and riot gear with me.
To the Wonder opens in the UK on February 22nd, and in US theaters on April 12th.
