Wish You Were Here is the opening film for Sundance’s World Cinema Dramatic Competition. It was written and directed by Kieran Darcy-Smith and marks his feature-length debut behind the lens. Here’s a brief glimpse of the plot:
Four friends lose themselves in the fun of a carefree South East Asian holiday. Only three return home. Who amongst them knows what happened on that fateful night when they were dancing under a full moon in Cambodia?
It’s an intense trailer, and hopefully Wish You Were Here finds a distributor at the festival. And yet, I feel like Holiday in Cambodia would have been a more fitting title. “♫ It’s a holiday in Cambodia / Where Aussies wind up dead / It’s a holiday in Cambodia / With mysteries, guilt, and dread ♫”
