Despite being such a prolific filmmaker, having made at least one film a year since the 70’s as well as being the target of a slew of skits on Saturday Night Live, Woody Allen has never fully opened up to the public. He has accepted very few interviews over the years and his personal life is kept largely under wraps. Well, it looks like he’s about to make up for it in the upcoming American Masters documentary, Woody Allen: A Documentary premiering on PBS this weekend. In it, he will talk about the details of his personal life, his film-making process, growing up in Brooklyn and exploring every facet of this brilliant director’s many experiences.
Celebrity interviews abound in this documentary with appearances by Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Penelope Cruz, John Cusack, Larry David, Mariel Hemingway, Scarlett Johansson, Julie Kavner, Diane Keaton, Martin Landau, Sean Penn, Chris Rock, Mira Sorvino, Naomi Watts, Dianne Wiest and Owen Wilson, all of who have been in Allen’s films from over the 40 years he’s been making films. Brett Ratner (Huh?) is producing with Robert Weide (How to Lose Friends & Alienate People) in the director’s chair.
