Hey guys, it’s October! You know what that means: Halloween is right around the corner! As such, we will be bringing you some of our favorite horror film suggestions, in the hopes that they will lead to some sleepless nights. This is…Trick or Treat!
Yellowbrickroad is a great Halloween movie. One of my best friends and fellow horror movie aficionado, Nick (not Valdez, I’m not that lucky), told me about it and I decided to give it a shot. About an hour and forty minutes later, as I stared at the credits with shock and awe, I was certainly glad I did.
The legend goes that one day in 1940, the entire 572-person town of Friar, New Hampshire dropped everything and walked off into the mountains. Somewhere around three hundred bodies were found, some dead of exposures, others straight up murdered. In the interim between then and 2008, Friar had become more myth than anything else, but when the coordinates of the “YEELOWBRICKROAD” trail are declassified, a film crew decides to document the journey they will take. At the risk of spoilers, there’s no wizard at the end of this road or is there (there isn’t).
The first half or so of the film are creepy, but nothing I hadn’t seen before. Things go from creepy to downright “Uh, what?” and then the film goes straight off the rails with an ending that is almost (almost) too weird, even with all the groundwork laid before it. There are no answers at the end of the Yellow Brick Road, and I’m sure these characters certainly wish they were in Kansas instead.
