A giant bloody eyeball darting around, embedded behind someone’s intestines is the sort of image that always gets the attention of a critic with as refined a palate as my own. If you see the above trailer and find it to be too needlessly bloody or ridiculous, then please move on. A creek turning red with blood is obviously the highest form of art.
I like what I’ve seen so far from Dread’s upcoming Assassinaut (cool tittle), which sees four teenagers braving the wilderness of an alien planet in an attempt to stop an assassin from reaching Earth and probably killing someone important and causing a doomsday.
Is it a little cheesy that this alien wilderness looks identical to Earth’s own? Sure. Does the trailer give you basically no idea of what the movie is going to be about? Absolutely. Just from watching the trailer, I would’ve assumed the crew never made it to space in the first place. That said, it looks bloody and weird, and there could be some cool stuff in here.
We’ll all find out when Assassinaut crash lands onto VOD and DVD on July 30, 2019.
