So, I guess the new trend in Hollywood is to snatch up rights to books that haven’t been written yet. That, and Facebook movies. The Social Network started both trends, and now, due to its success, everyone wants a piece of the Facespace pie. So it should come as no surprise that Warner Bros. today announced that they have acquired the rights to the novel The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Macker. The unfinished book is about a girl in 1996 who goes on the internet for the first time to discover that her Facebook profile from fifteen years in the future is on her screen. Never mind that Facebook isn’t compatible with those horrible old web standards we had back in the 90s.
I don’t even need to say how dumb this idea is. As anyone who reads this site knows, I’m very much against these kinds of trends in Hollywood, and would rather see awesome, original movies. But what do you guys think? Awful idea, or the worst idea ever?
