Universal doesn’t have any comic books to create a cohesive universe out of, but since doing that seems to be a way to make lots of money (at least if you’re as good at it as Marvel is) that isn’t going to stop them. With recent edits to Dracula Untold and the announcement that they’re making a Universal Monster Universe it’s been a bit unclear how they’ll actually be going about doing that other than The Mummy being the first to launch it.
Now we know that at least there will be a second film and it will land on April 27, 2017. No idea who the monster will be, but it will be “a new epic action-adventure in a series produced and overseen by the creative team of Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek series) and Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious series), the UNTITLED UNIVERSAL MONSTER FRANCHISE FILM will follow The Mummy in their new initiative to revive and reimagine Universal’s classic monsters for a modern audience.”
So who is it going to be? Wolfman? The creature from the black lagoon? Frankenstein’s monster? Who knows. What we do know is if they want to really get this going they’ll have to improve on Dracula Untold a whole lot.
