UPDATE: Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Edgar Wright have shot down the rumor (Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd were in meetings for the Ant-Man lead) with the former calling it “outright lies.” According to an interview with the French website AlloCine (translated by the good folks at The Playlist), JGL sadly broke our hearts:
“There are always rumors. I talk a lot about my future projects, so if you haven’t heard me talk about it, it means it’s nothing but a rumor…People like to write about [rumors].” Gordon-Levitt also added that reports of his having passed auditions or screen tests for the role were “nothing but lies.”
And Edgar Wright just laid out a cryptic tweet as he always does. Note Rudd has yet to disqualify anything. It’s sad yes, but since the film won’t be out until 2015, there’s no need to cement anyone yet. Original story below.
Now that Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man has moved to a Summer 2015 release date (alongside The Avengers: Age of Ultron of course) and Edgar Wright realized a teasing photo of that beautiful Ant-Man ass, it’s time to start the casting. And the remaining front runners may surprise you.
If you’re expecting some big beefy guy a la Chris Evans or even Robert Downey Jr. to play Hank Pym’s Ant-Man, then you’d be wrong. According to Variety, Paul Rudd and Jospeh Gordon-Levitt are the final two in the running for the role. The site also notes the two have to meet with Marvel one more time before a decision is made (and that a third actor could enter the mix). What do you think? I’m thinking this is a good idea. Ant-Man is probably going to be more of a swagger, humor led film than action (like Iron Man) so these two make a lot of sense. Then again, I don’t know Ant-Man that well other than the time he beat his wife or something.
