USA Network taking Chuck Finley to another level

0

USA Network’s Burn Notice has built a steady following since its 2007 debut, with more than a little credit going to Bruce Campbell. Campbell’s Sam Axe, code name Chuck Finley, is for some the best thing about a show that’s pretty likable overall. Jeffrey Donovan’s Michael Westen plays the ex-government operative and reserved leader to Axe’s boisterous ex-Navy SEAL. We’ll just focus on these two dudes for a minute, since the news concerns them exclusively.

With Fox TV Studios in tow, USA has greenlit a two-hour prequel film focused on Sam Axe’s Navy SEAL days. Westen won’t be joining Sam on this mission, but Donovan will–as the prequel’s director. Fans may have noticed Donovan’s occasional producing credit on the series. He also directed “Made Men,” an episode from earlier this season that featured Axe prominently. Donovan and Campbell will produce along with Mikkel Bondesen and series creator, Matt Nix, who has written the script. While the announcement makes it official, apparently people have known about this since Comic-Con in July. It’s news to me, and even sweeter knowing that the film is set to premiere as soon as Spring 2011.
