Vampire Academy to be adapted with Mean Girls director

The next book series fighting for the attention of the tweensies is Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy. Reliance Entertainment and IM Global have purchased the rights to adapt the first in the six (SIX) book series, Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters. The Vampire Academy series follows Rose, a girl who has a vampire best friend and goes to a school full of them with nary an “Edward” in sight.

If you were going to ignore this news thinking that it would potentially become more schlock, then the Waters brothers should bring that attention right back. Daniel Waters, who wrote the script for the amazing Heathers, is writing while his brother Daniel, who directed Mean Girls, is set to direct with Zoey Deutch to star.

And since I’m known around these parts as a sucker for tweensies films, I’ll be keeping a close eye on this. And since Heathers and Mean Girls were practically parallels of one another, considered me intrigued to see what kind of film can combine the tones and messages of the two.
