Warner Bros. delays Gangster Squad to reshoot gun scene

Remember the original teaser trailer for Spider-Man? It was a cool mini-movie, but because of 9/11, Sony decided to pull it because of the prominent appearance of the World Trade Center. Thanks to the shooting in Aurora at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises, studios may be treading just as lightly.

Warner Brothers has decided to push back the September 7 release of Gangster Squad, a battle between LA police and the mafia set in the 40s and 50s, to allow for reshoots. What’s the problem, you ask? The film’s climax reportedly featured a man shooting into the audience through the film screen at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Yeah, I can see why they might want to cut that.

Gangster Squad is now set to be released on January 11, though it’s not yet clear how the movie will be changed. I understand why they’re doing it, but I think it’s a real shame whenever ideas get compromised because of recent events. Hopefully the original version can be included down the line on DVD and Blu-ray.
