Every day I get a bit older, and every time something like this happens, that fact really sinks in. In less than a year, Scott Cawthon’s Five Night’s at Freddy‘s videogame series (which follows a night security guard watching over haunted animatronics in a pizza place) has gone on to three sequels and has amassed a huge audience of kids. The point and click game full of jumpscares wasn’t for me, but it grew to insane popularity on YouTube where famous personalities over reacted to the scares.
Now there’s a movie. Warner Bros has picked up the rights to the film and it’s currently looking for writers. This doesn’t surprise me. With how many crazy properties we get now, I’m surprised it took this long. It’s going to be cheap to make, has a well known name, and it could even be interesting in the right hands. But from what I’ve read of reviews from the game on our sister site Destructoid, I don’t see it becoming interesting anytime soon.
