Warner Bros. passes on Dark Tower, but it may live!

[Update: Deadline is reporting that Media Rights Capital is now in “serious talks” to pick up the financing reins for Ron Howard’s adaptation of The Dark Tower, as co-chairman and co-CEO Modi Wiczyk is evidently a very big fan of the series. Considering that MRC has taken some pretty big risks on stuff like Ted and Elysium, it makes a certain amount of sense. Cross your fingers, gunslingers!]

Put another nail in the coffin for Ron Howard’s epic adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. After stating that they’d make a decision about picking up the movie/TV project they did indeed make a decision. That decision was to not move forward with the project leaving Ron Howard and Imagine Entertainment with a project that’s looking less and less likely to ever come to fruition. 

Variety reports almost no details on the project, but considering that both Universal and WB have passed up on the massive undertaking, despite a lower budget, I don’t think anyone will be picking this up any time soon. It is a really ambitious project so one can understand why studios are so skitish, especially when the subject matter may not move tickets as fast as, say, Fifty Shades of Grey. 

Yeah, just think about that. Fifty Shades of Grey will most likely have a movie before Stephen King’s most epic undertaking ever sees the light of day.
