Do you like LEGO? Do you like cartoons? Then boy howdy, do I have some news for you! Warner Bros. is working on adapting the LEGO franchise into its own full-length animated movie. Set to be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the same directors from 21 Jump Street and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, the movie will feature a lot of popular figures as well as a variety of new ones. The most popular figures in my mind are the ones based on huge movie franchises, so I’m basically imagining a huge Star Wars/Harry Potter crossover.
The screenplay will be written by Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman, who have worked on previous LEGO short movies. Clearly, the movie will be aimed at kids, but hopefully it will have some appeal to adults other than the inevitable merchandise. With the directing team’s former projects balanced between action/comedy and a fairly good kid’s movie, I’m pretty optimistic as long as the script doesn’t suck. The movie is slated for release on February 28th, 2014.
