At this point, The Mandalorian needs little in the way of introduction. It’s the first live-action series in the Star Wars universe. It’s showrun by the likes of Jon Favreau, with the oversight and input of creators like Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). It’s the flagship series for Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney+. And now, it’s time to see what the fuss is about.
Pedro Pascal stars as the titular bounty hunter, whose western gunslinger-esque escapades are set after the fall of the Empire and before the New Order rears its pretty Kylo Ren-head (for those less fluent in Star Wars, that’s between Episode VI and VII). With a supporting cast including the likes of Brendan Wayne, Giancarlo Esposito, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Nick Nolte, and Werner Herzog, among others, the stage is set for some galactic underworld goodness to the max.
Little is known of The Mandalorian‘s actual plot, but the new trailer sets a tone and runs with it, clearly going for a more mature side of Star Wars that some may have found lacking from the recent Disney films.
With a November 12th launch set and a second season already gestating, it’s time to start getting even more excited for this gritty and daring slice of the Star Wars pie.
