In between Guardians of the Galaxy and the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, James Gunn wrote a movie that’s decidedly nothing like Guardians of the Galaxy. In fact, it looks like a cross between The Office and Ben Wheatley’s High-Rise, with an empahsis on the latter.
In other words, it looks kind of like a James Gunn movie made outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe (e.g., Tromeo and Juliet, the last great Troma movie).
The film is called The Belko Experiment, and it’s directed by Australian filmmaker Greg McLean, best known for the grueling Wolf Creek films. You can check out the intense red-band trailer below.
Ahh, Michael Rooker. A frequent Gunn cast member and a character actor whose appearance is often a sign of some quality. Ditto John C. McGinley. Two great “That Guys”. Rooker and McGinely should do a buddy cop movie together called Those Guys.
The Belko Experiment premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year. Reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are divided, with some critic enjoying the film’s carnage while others found it unpalatable.
We’ll get to taste a little of that Belko nuttiness on March 17, 2017.
