There’s been a void of information about the upcoming HBO “adaptation” of the seminal comic Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. While showrunner Damon Lindelof (LOST) has been pretty upfront about it not being a direct adaptation, he’s used some utterly confusing statements to describe the show. He was wise to do that as the first teaser of the show looks like it takes almost nothing but inspiration and history from the original comic and runs with their own story.

Apart from the awkward room of people chanting “tick-tock” with their arms crossed, this all looks fascinating. From my point of view, this looks to take place in a post-squid/Dr. Manhattan bomb world where vigilantes have returned in full force and taken over the jobs of the police. This would also fit in line with the tease that Lindelof said about the show being the “New Testament” to the comics “Old Testament.”
Watchmen is scheduled for release on HBO this coming fall with at least one season ordered. No word on a second season just yet.
