Mark Webber, better known as Stephen Stills, the singer/guitarist of Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World’s Sex Bob-omb, is totally a man-crush of mine. Finding out he’s going to write, direct, and star in his own indie film (in before “pretentious hipster sh*tâ€) only sweetens the pot. Toss in his presumably adorable two-year-old son and IRL pals Michael Cera, Jason Ritter, and future Some Like It Hot subjects Amanda Seyfried and Shannyn Sossamon and you have my full, undivided attention.
The as-yet-to-be-titled film (might I suggest Mark Webber is Awesome and Has Hot Friends?), supposedly made for less than a million dollars, will follow the trials and tribulations of a man, played by Webber, and his two-year-old son after the death of the man’s wife. Not exactly the cheeriest plot, but Webber will apparently be drawing from real life. “That’s the crux of the film.†he told THR’s Risky Business blog. “After spending so much time with my son being a father, I became obsessed with the idea of showing the most authentic father-son dynamic on screen.”

In an attempt to keep his son as oblivious as possible to the film-making process, Webber will be filming with a veritable skeleton crew: himself, a DP, and a sound guy."It’s been really cool and eye-opening to limit the exposure to my son but create the scenes and moments that seem realistically uncomfortable. The blurring of boundaries and the overcompensation that you do with a child — how you look to them for affection when it’s not appropriate? It’s been an exercise to capture real life moments and still tell a compelling story."
As for his sexy cadre of buddies? They’ll be playing themselves, more or less, perhaps similar to Cera’s previous faux-documentary Paper Heart. "I’m getting them to show a real side of who they are and smash that up with people’s expectations of celebrity."
Sounds awesome, but to be honest, you had me at ‘Mark Webber.’
