Noah Hawley’s Doctor Doom script feels like it has been written for ages and just waiting to be made. Now that he has finished with Legion, it seems like that could be next up on his plate…assuming that the stars align.
Doctor Doom was one of the films that Fox was considering before the Fox/Disney merger happened. Like so many other films its future became unclear what the future would hold for some of the films tied to franchises. Disney went ahead with the Kingsman prequel, The King’s Man, but dumped the adaptation of Mouse Guard. Doctor Doom’s future seemed uncertain, but we may have received some clarification from Hawley regarding this.
“I mean, where it stands is now that the movie is done and Legion is done and I’ve taken a little time off because someone told me there was this word “vacation,” which means you don’t work, which sounded really interesting to me. But you know, I need to circle back to them and announce that I would love to make it and figure out if that’s something that is possible. Whether or not they already have a plan in place for what to do with those characters or whether they’re open to my kind of vision for what to do with those characters. But it’s sort of on me right now to go push them, which I will do as soon as I come up for air.”
The push to get this film made come down to the writer/director himself or it could be up to what Kevin Feige and his brain trust have cooked up for Doom and the Fantastic Four going forward. Noah Hawley has proven himself capable of handling established properties with the Fargo TV series and the aforementioned Legion. We will just have to wait and see what fate has in store for Doctor Doom.
