By Two weeks ago, we reported on the Skrulls, a shape-shifitng alien race of nasties, would be invading Earth for The Avengers, spurred on by Thor’s mischievous brother Loki. Now, thanks to a casting call sheet from New Mexico, where Avengers is currently prepping for shooting, we have an inkling that Joss Whedon may be making the infamous Kree-Skrull War the central conflict in the massive superhero team-up. In the comics, the Kree and the Skrull are two alien races that have been at war for decades in a conflict that spanned galaxies. Their war just happens to spill over onto Earth, which forces the world’s superheroes to fight for their planet’s safety. From what we already know about how Loki is tied into The Avengers, I can only assume that his machinations with the Cosmic Cube will draw both races to Earth to continue their war. I think this is a fantastic idea, even if it’s only a rumor. It gives Marvel’s heroes more than a large reason to band together, plus it sets up the greater cosmic universe within Marvel comics for future exploration. I’ve been having a conversation with Sean about this, as we’re both comic book nerds, and he seems to think that, while the Avengers need a huge threat to fight, that two alien races continuing a decades-long war on Earth might be a little too big, that the characters could get lost in the shuffle. What do you guys think? Is this too big or not nearly big enough?

Story:
A superhero team called “The Avengers” do battle against two separate alien extraterrestrial humanoid life forms. The Avengers are a superhero team, consisting of a group of Marvel Comics heroes aka “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”. The aliens that The Avengers will fight are called “The Kree” and “Skrulls”. These two extraterrestrial races become embroiled in a war for ages that ultimately makes its way to Earth, and the Avengers unite to intervene with all their power and might combined.
