Nine years (nine years!) since the third film, it’s almost time to take the toys out of the attic with Toy Story 4‘s June 21 release date just a month away.
Continuing Woody, Buzz, and Jessie’s story in a post-Andy world, where a new addition to the gang in the form of Forky (Tony Hale), a utensil-turned-toy, upsets the natural (unnatural?) order of the toys’ existence. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack return to their roles, as do much of the previous cast.
If you’d asked me if we needed another Toy Story before this I would have probably said “No! The ending to the third movie was so perfectly bittersweet!” Yet here we are, with the fourth film looking every bit as justified in its existence, itself already an existential crisis of “why are we here” questioning that will keep kids guessing and parents riddled with anxiety… In a good way!
It really looks terrific and sweet as always. Toy Story 4 opens June 21, 2019.
