I think we’re all aware of the under representation of female directors in Hollywood. That problem is even greater when we’re talking about big budget blockbusters. Women directors are almost completely missing from tent pole films. A small step in the right direction is being taken as The Wrap is reporting that Game of Thrones director Michelle MacLaren is the top choice for the upcoming Wonder Woman, which will star Gal Gadot after she debuts in Batman v Superman.
MacLaren has evidently been in talks for a bit now, along with a few others, but has resurfaced as the front runner for the film. However, WB isn’t quite ecstatic about a female director for some reason. I’m of the opinion it would be a major misstep to not have one, but worries of no female director having enough experience with action films seem to be creeping up. Of course, they can’t get that experience if they never get a chance so it’s a bit of a vicious circle.
WB and everyone involved with Wonder Woman are keeping a tight lip on this for now, but we should be hearing some time soon.
