Things have been all over the place for Marc Forster-directed zombie pic World War Z, and now word has come that the new ending being crafted for the film is actually being done by Drew Goddard, director of Cabin in the Woods and writer of the Robopocalypse screenplay. Early word was that the new ending was originally being penned Damon Lindelof, but it turns out he just crafted the idea and handed the writing off to Goddard. No word on what this new ending is, but after all those re-shoots you have to wonder what is up with the movie.
The rewriting fun doesn’t end here either. Both Goddard and Lindelof are busy people so Paramount will most likely be looking for another writer to polish off the new ending. Deadline reports that Christopher McQuarrie, who adapted and directed Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher, is high on the list of people to take another crack at it, but he’s really busy too so maybe no one will. They could just throw the thing at the screen and be done with it, I suppose.
This film has so much promise, though. I want to come down on it because movies with more than two screenwriters and years of production issues usually don’t turn out well, but I’ve got my fingers crossed.
