Our boy Chuck is having a weird time right now. With an upcoming remake and still a TV series following the original exploits of the serial killer-possessed slasher doll, he’s torn between two worlds as it were. And as much as I might hate to admit it, I think I’m more looking forward to the reboot at this point.
Orion released our first look at the new and improved Chucky doll in its modern take on the Child’s Play tale starring Aubrey Plaza and Mark Hamil, and he looks pretty good!
It’s weird to not see him so frayed, burnt, stitched, and manic. He looks like pristine plastic, boyish, and charming. If it weren’t for the red eyes and knife clasped in his fist, he’d probably make for a good toy.
Honestly, I don’t know if I was interested until they announced that Mark Hamil would voice the killer doll, but hot damn is that the best news they could have given. I really wonder how many maniacal laughs this man has in his repertoire, and I can’t wait to hear his unique rasp coming from the mouth of a tiny plastic man.
With the release of Child’s Play set for June 21, 2019, we still don’t know much about the movie. Chucky is new and improved, but is he still a serial killer’s soul trapped in a doll through a weird voodoo curse? Will there still be wise-cracks? Will he have a gangland score to settle? Only time (and more trailers) will tell, but so far I’m optimistic.
