We now have our fist official look at Color Out of Space, starring Nicolas Cage and directed by Richard Stanley, and it’s shaping up to be a trip. The beautiful neon-drenched scenery, bloody and strange hallucinations, and a shotgun freakout by Cage give me plenty of reason to be hella stoked for this release.
I mean, it won’t be Mandy. Not much can be, though, and what’s here looks very cool.
Based on a story by H.P. Lovecraft (the king of public domain horror), Color Out of Space sees a family of four finally move to the country for what seems like a perfect escape from the bustle of the city. Of course this is horror, so what seems perfect is actually the worst, and an alien meteorite crashes into their backyard and seeps a mind and body altering color into the atmosphere that morphs each family member and sets them on a battle for survival against an extraterrestrial menace. Cool! It also has Tommy Chong playing some sort of indigenous person, I guess. Weird!
We’ll get to see just how much cool weirdness Color Out of Space has in store for us when it crashes into theaters on January 24, 2020.
