Our own Sean Walsh cries himself to sleep everytime an Emma Stone project falls off the radar, so I wondered if his mental health should be put at risk by writing this article. But hey, we’re in the dangerous world of pre-apocalyptic journalism here. Sooner or later there’s bound to be casualties.
Like the breakout hit The Hangover, talk began early of a Zombieland sequel. Also like The Hangover, a lot of that talk surrounded who would be the featured cameo, because both movies had a hellova cherry.
But a lot has changed since the Summer of 2009. The follow-up to that other film… well, lets just say we didn’t think it matched the quality of the original, and the cast of Zombieland are now in a position to demand a competetive salary. Emma Stone (I know Sean, I’m sorry) found herself cast in The Amazing Spiderman and both Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson have since received Oscar nominations (not for Zombieland). This writer feels they both deserved to win but hey, keep doing what you do Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences. Hit the jump for details on why, if Zombieland Too happens, it will be an unfortunate cash-in.
In a recent interview, The Social Network star Eisenberg was quoted as saying “No. They’re writing the script right now but I haven’t seen it and I suspect that the longer we wait, the less relevant it will be.” with The Messenger‘s Harrelson stating “I’m sure it will happen if everyone does it, but I’m not sure it’s the right thing to do.”
No word from Abigail Breslin but after seeing her indie music drama Janie Jones, I feel like her best bet would be to angle for a Zombieland spinoff pronto. That heart/guitar string formula film is NOT gonna put her through college.
