While talking up The Watch in an interview with Collider, Ben Stiller slipped a troubling detail on how production was going with Zoolander 2:
“We have a script, as we’ve had for a little while, and it’s not quite coming together right now but I hope it does. I would like to do it at some point in the future.”
While we’ve known for awhile that the script was together, this is very sad news for the “mer-MAN!” Derek Zoolander. Right now I don’t even care if it’s an awful movie, I just want this to happen very badly. Zoolander is the high point of Ben Stiller’s career, and while it might have been lightning in a bottle, I want a return to Zoolander‘s uniqueness. How could I think to turn away such gems as, “The world does not revolve around you and your do whatever it takes, ruin as many people’s lives so long as you can make a name for yourself as an investigatory journalist, no matter how many friends you lose or people you leave dead and bloodied along the way, just as long as you can make a name for yourself as an investigatory journalist, no matter how many friends you lose or how many people you leave dead and bloody and dying along the way!”
